Hope does play quite a lot of dot balls. I think Joe Root would have nurdled a lot of these for runs.

  2. WI 94-1

Four more runs from the over.

There have been seven dot balls in the last three overs now. Throughout the tournament that’s been the obvious difference between the better sides I’ve thought. The likes of England and India are much better at rotating the strike.

    Lewis is up to 49.

Are West Indies better without Gayle?

    #bbccricket

Pam Nash:I have a hunch that WI will be better when Gayle retires…I do wonder if the others are kind of intimidated and will step up when he’s gone.

  4. WI 90-1

Evin Lewis is frustrated with himself as he misses out on the chance to bring up his half-century as he picks out short fine leg with a paddle.

Four singles come off Shakib’s first over.

  5. Post update

We’re going to see Shakib Al Hasan for the first time today.

Hope has played some glorious shots. He has hit the field a few times but he is a beautiful player to watch.

  7. WI 86-1

Just four runs come from Mosaddek’s second over.

Windies are ticking along at 4.30 runs an over. It’s all very sedate at the moment.

Great cricket all round, beautiful shot from Hope, terrific dive, kept it in – two runs.

  9. WI 84-1

    More brilliant fielding from Bangladesh.

A sprawling Mahmudullah saves a couple of runs after Shai Hope creams another cover drive. He’s starting to really time those drives now.

    Sir Curtly Ambrose

Former West Indies bowler on BBC Test Match Special

Bangladesh are the more confident of the two having beaten the West Indies quite a lot in recent times. It was an interesting decision to drop Brathwaite, now West Indies only have four frontline bowlers.

  11. WI 82-1

Bangladesh’s fielding has been excellent so far today.

Mohammad Saifuddin, at short fine leg this time, this does well again and saves three runs.

Another tight over is ruined off the final delivery as Evin Lewis cloths a short ball between the wicketkeeper and short fine leg for four. The left-hander is one blow away from a half-century now.

  12. From the press box

  13. WI 75-1

Mosaddek Hossain replaces Mehedi Hasan, who has figures of 0-18 from his four overs.

Despite bowling the rankest long hop you’ll ever see, Shai Hope can only pull to square leg, who does well to stop it.

Five dots start the over before a single down to long-off takes Hope to 28.

A shade over four an over, which isn’t too bad considering West Indies have included an extra batsman in their line-up, but at the same time you don’t want to soak up too many dot balls, which is often the case with the West Indies.

  15. WI 74-1

The Fizz is going to continue.

The TV cameras have just cut to a Bangladesh fan in the crowd who is attempting to tie a flag to a branch – they’re majorly outnumbering the West Indies fans today.

Good over from Mustafizur Rahman with just two singles added to the total.

  17. A good stop at short fine leg restricts Evin Lewis after he swivel pulls a short ball from Mehidy.

Offffft. That’s a beautiful shot from Shai Hope to end the over. It’s a tad short from Mehidy again and he rocks back and carves it to the cover boundary.

    WI 67-1

Evin Lewis is starting to time the ball much better. He creams a cover drive off Mehidy for a couple.

Mohammad Saifuddin has taken a blow to his hand doing the fielding – he signals he’s fine to carry on after a brief stoppage – but the umpires have decided we’re going to take a hydration break mid-over so he can get it checked over.

  20. Post update

    Thanks Jamie.

It’s been slow progress from West Indies but if they can build a platform for Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell and Jason Holder then we could have some late innings fireworks.
