    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

Poor from Shanice van de Sanden, giving the ball away inside her own half, but Alia Guagni’s long range curler sails over the bar.

  2. Post update

    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

The Dutch are looking to exploit the wide areas.

They have seen some passages of light both down the right and left, though the deliveries into the box have not found an orange shirt.

    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

    Faye White

Former England captain on BBC One

Italy will face a different test today, with Vivianne Miedema’s movement and awareness with her runs. The Netherlands also have the pace of Shanice van de Sanden down the right and the trickery of Lieke Martens on the left. I think both defences can be got at.

  4. Post update

    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

Not expecting this game to be played at a break neck speed.

The players will be looking to conserve their energy.

…and they are now in fine voice inside the ground.

Italy have been the surprise package. Getting through a group with Australia and Brazil in is no mean feat and I was really impressed with the way they managed the China game in the last 16.

  7. Post update

    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

Barcelona forward Lieke Martens already showing how dangerous she can be, showing quick feet down the left and putting a lovely cross into the box which is just a little too high for Netherlands striker Vivianne Miedema.

  8. ‘Hidden messages’

    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

    Rachel Brown-Finnis

Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

A huge part of this World Cup has been about hidden messages beyond the 90 minutes.

We have seen them from the likes of Germany about some of the remarks from their media back home. And then there have been more political and poignant messages from Megan Rapinoe.

    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

The thermometer shattering temperatures mean we will have a couple of drinks breaks during this game.

  10. Post update

    Italy 0-0 Netherlands

    Laura Bassett

Former England defender on BBC One

You always knew you were in for a tough game against Italy. They’re defensively organised and try to do anything they can to win, and all credit to them. They’ve been a joy to watch.

You could say that the Netherlands were lucky to get past Japan with that last-minute penalty but the key point is they found a way to win and get through.

  11. KICK-OFF

Away we go in baking Valenciennes.

    33C over there. Nice.

  13. ‘They don’t come quietly either’

    Italy v Netherlands (14:00 BST)

    Rachel Brown-Finnis

Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Italy have certainly been the underdogs in this tournament.

They have come into this with no exceptions, admittedly for them, and here they are in the quarter-final of the World Cup and doing something that will hopefully have a ripple effect back home.

The Dutch fans don’t come quietly either. They will not sit down
    during the entire 90 minutes.
