  1. Brooks tees it up

    Koepka -3, Oosthuizen -1

Brooks Koepka is walking down the steps on to the first tee. He’s texting I think, or maybe he’s updating his My Space.

Interestingly Tiger Woods said Brooks ignored his request for a practice round but Brooks has now cleared up he never got the text. Apparently the major-loving youngster changed his mobile number after the US Open and didn’t tell Tiger.

I mean how do you not tell Tiger? He runs this game.

Anyway, Koepka has a nice blue cap on and sports some designer stubble. The tee shot goes left, rough.

Louis Oosthuizen – winner in 2010 – is on the fairway.

  2. Marquee group…

    Fleetwood -3, Olesen +1, Thomas E

You see I was always told blue and green don’t really work as a combo. Justin Thomas has found rough and now the bunker on one. I blame the outfit.

Thorbjorn Olesen is through the green, Tommy Fleetwood hacks out of rough and sits nicely to the right of the green. That was a solid recovery.

  3. Post update

    Alex Bysouth

    BBC Sport at Royal Portrush

Maybe Tommy Fleetwood was watching McIlroy open up yesterday – he almost takes the ‘Rory Line’.

That’s a long, cold path to snowmen and big digits…

  4. Did you know, Tommy Fleetwood is one of only four players who was bogey free on day one.

The lucky list reads:Kiradech Aphibarnrat (68), Tony Finau (68), Tommy Fleetwood (68), Shubhankar Sharma (70).

He has work to do on one after that poor tee shot.

  5. Fleetwood tees off…

    Fleetwood -3, Olesen +1, Thomas E

“This is game number eight. On the tee, from the USA, Justin Thomas.”

I like this dude. A major winner of course. I’ll forgive him the navy pants and green jumper combo today. He sends his tee shot into the rough.

Tommy Fleetwood now, black jumper, black cap, white pants. Solid look, maybe not the pants. Nice clip noise, poor line. A hook right and he JUST stays in bounds.

Finally Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen. He takes an iron, he looks dapper – blue shirt, white cap – and he hits the middle of the fairway. Look good, feel good, swing good.

  6. What did I say earlier? Byeong Hun An has some game.

He starts par-birdie-par-birdie. His latest tweet tweet comes with a snaking put which travels some 20ft and breaks left to right… straight in.

Back to level par. Two under for the day.

  7. The joy of one…

    Grillo +2

So at 7:47am, what can bring you more joy than seeing a hole in one.

This happened yesterday. Argentina has given us Maradona, Lionel Messi, good steak and Emiliano Grillo.

  8. Quote of Thursday…

    Hatton -3

“I’d like to say no one knows me
anyway, so it’s fine. I’m not bothered like the big boys. So, yeah, just go
about my life and do what I want to do.”

    — Tyrrell Hatton, who shot
a three-under 68 yesterday, on being able to see the local sights while going relatively
    unrecognised.

  • told reporters he was now resigned to finishing last but he has endured a torrid injury run since winning The Open in 2001.

At 20 over par, he’s bottom of the leaderboard but some fans were kind enough to tweet#bbcgolfwith messages of support. Well in Robert…

  • Early starters…

    Lehman

    So what’s happening out there.

Tom Lehman, the 1996 winner, is playing in his last Open. I make it his 24th appearance in this tournament.

He pings his opening drive into the sand but at 60, he’s seen these traps before. Still, at +8, he needs better.

South Korea’sByeong Hun Anand England’sChris Woodare out there and both get through the first with pars, leaving them +2.

  • How they stand…

    The Open day two

    -5:J.B Holmes

    -4:S Lowry

    -3:J Rahm, T Hatton, T Fleetwood, R Fox, B Koepka, L Westwood, T Finau, A Noren, W Simpson, S Garcia, D Frittelli, R MacIntyre, K Aphibarnrat

That’s how they stand at the top. The likes of Fleetwood, Fox, Hatton and Koepka are out quite early today.

So what will day two serve up? I’m going to bring you all the colour, stats, shots, videos, you name it.

And I of course want to hear from you. Yesterday you all ended up sending us images of big bunkers. Who knows what today will serve up but if anyone has any high quality imagery to share, ping it to#bbcgolf. If not, just tell me what your staple golfing breakfast is.
