Surrey suffer collapse in County Championship – day two, text & radio

Rain delaying play

Hampshire 222-8 v Yorkshire 181

To remind you, they’re still off because of rain at Headingley, where Hampshire have a 41-run advantage.

Third session of the day begins at Edgbaston

Surrey 134-6 v Warwickshire 293

It was a compelling afternoon session, in which the sides tested each
others’ strength for a tense hour before the Surrey middle-order suddenly gave
way. Jeetan Patel led in every sense, bowling through the session to take three
wickets – all in his sixteenth over.

He and Oliver Hannon-Dalby examined the techniques of
Scott Borthwick and Dean Elgar for a while, as runs were almost entirely shut
down. Just when it seemed the siege was about to be relieved, Liam Norwell
returned to pin Borthwick with a full delivery. Patel immediately delivered his
three-card trick, inducing Elgar to drive to extra-cover, and both Ryan Patel and
Will Jacks to nibble to the slips.

Surrey were still over 200 behind, but Rikki Clarke
launched a ball from Norwell into the Hollies Stand to announce the start of a
counter-attack, and by tea the deficit was trimmed to 165.

Staggered teas and lots of rain

The matches at Headingley and Hove have both stopped for the time being because of rain, while a wet wicket meant no play was possible between Gloucestershire and Lancashire at Cheltenham today whatsoever.

They’re at tea at Edgbaston and Grace Road.

At Chelmsford and Worcester they’re actually playing cricket.
