National Assembly’s message to Buhari is clear, they can begin impeachment process – Idahosa
– West Idahosa said the National Assembly has sent a clear message to President Buhari about their intention to impeach him
West Idahosa, a former member of the House of Representatives, said the National Assembly’s message to President Muhammadu Buhari is clear enough and the Senate can proceed to impeach the president if he fails to comply with their resolution. The National Assembly had on Tuesday, June 5, reaffirmed its vote of no confidence on the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris, and warned President Buhari over the “systematic harassment and humiliation by the Executive of perceived political opponents”. Idahosa, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said the National Assembly can proceed to impeach President Buhari if he fails to listen to its complaints.
He said: “When the president has been asked to comply with certain decisions of the National Assembly, otherwise they will invoke their constitutional power, it’s a very clear message and what is the constitutional power that the National Assembly can invoke at a time like this? They can, of course, begin the impeachment process of Mr President and hope they secure the required 2/3rd in parliament to get him out of office.
“So that is a clear message and I think the President should be worried about that message.” According to him, several resolutions have been passed in the past with little or no action taken on them. He said: “It is sad that many serious resolutions have been passed and nothing has been done about it, so it’s not just about the National Assembly, it’s about the threats to the institutions of government and we must not allow this to happen. “The best thing to do is to reach a consensus, respect each arm of government and ensure that there is justice and equity for the Nigerian people.”
the Parliamentary Support Group of the Senate and House of Representatives made up of senators and members who support President Muhammadu Buhari have asked him not to be deterred by mischief makers. There was no debate, no voting before the National Assembly adopted the 12 point resolutions threatening to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. The resolutions were simply railroaded by members of the Peoples Democratic Party.
