“Mark my word; There’ll be Another Second War in Nigeria very Soon” — Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is driving Nigeria towards “disaster and instability”.

Obasanjo, in an interview with Premium Times, noted that although the country had made considerable progress since the new dispensation began in 1999, the current pace was poor.

He said: “I think we have no choice but to be on the path for sustainable development. The progress we are making may be questionable. Is it fast enough? Is it steady enough? Is it stable enough? Are we taking two steps forward and one step back or one step side-way?

“You can question that, but we have no choice but to be on (the) path for sustainable development. Any other thing will be a disaster. In fact, the pace at which we are going now is tending more and more toward disaster and instability and unsustainability.

The problem is that we are just not doing what we should be doing. Nobody has that confidence, and we cannot develop Nigeria without that confidence in our economy. Both for domestic investors and foreign investors.”

Obasanjo argued that the present government that claims to be fighting corruption has “corrupted” the anti-graft agencies his government put in place.

“I set up two (anti-corruption) institutions,” he said.

“I came with two laws that were not there before, to fight corruption. And those who claim they are fighting corruption today have not brought in anything different. If anything, they have corrupted those two institutions.

“And the institutions were open and independent. I never, never, as president had to say to either the head of ICPC or EFCC: ‘Oh, chase this person’.

“Nigeria was a pariah state. Within the first four years (1999-2003)… we actually hosted the commonwealth And Nigeria which was kicked out of the Commonwealth became the host of a Commonwealth Head of Governments Meeting (CHOGOM). We became the darling of almost all nations. The economy started doing well.

  1. Leave that please to the Citizens to decide whether you have ever asked the then EFCC boss to chase any politician or social critic or not

  2. We should learn to be positive minded Nigerians.Former President Obasanjo should be caution. He is not a gods or godess for Nigeria and Nigerians. What he did to the south-south,a whole village was wiped. We had experienced war,we will not experience it again. The former President is only afraid to look at himself. The present government is doing well.We Nigerians should show love and shorn words of conflicts and war from any source.God bless PMB,God bless Nigeria.

    • While you av right to your opinion, saying the present ruler is doing well shows you are not sincere to yourself or to Nigerians
Can you please where he is doing well?

  3. I doubt if second war in Nigeria will solve our present and future problems. Why. is the former President Obasanjo making himself as the god of Nigeria? Nigeria does not belong to any particular person. If he is wishing us to fight, he will die before the war will “start” Nigerians will not fight again.

    • You are only waiting for a conventional war, your people are being killed by the day, by a group wishing to enforce their economic interest on everybody and every section of the land as well as taking and occupying other people’s territory by force yet must of us are here playing the Ostrich.May we not all be consumed by the raging fire.

  4. Don’t mind this man. He loss his bearing from dictating or God fatherism. And when water finish behind the fish in the pond, it suffering become high and survival become uncertainty.

    • He is already on his way Home’s’ one may not know how old you are but if sincerely you think that what is happening now in Nigeria doesn’t call for concern then you have every reason to query your conscience.

  5. OBJ is sounding a note of Warning. Nobody wants a War.
What OBJ is saying is that 2019 is different from 1967. Nothing can be taking for granted. PMB won the Election but he was rejected by entire SE and SS. He is unpopular in a large swathe of the country. The world is wondering how Buhari can administer justice to his enemies.
I never voted for Buhari and APC. But a lot of SE/SS Votes for Buhari were DENIED by APC Riggers – simply to keep SE/SS out of contention for the “Presidential APC Ticket” for 2023.
This Juvenile Deliberate Rigging Own Goal by APC is the singular reason the World wants Biafra at all costs
