The latest vote count from North Carolina’s 3rd and 9th districts
Voters in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District vote Tuesday in a re-do election, after the results of the 2018 midterm were thrown out over allegations of fraud against a consultant for the Republican candidate. The race between Democrat Dan McCready and new Republican candidate Dan Bishop has been the second-most expensive House special election ever. Though the district leans Republican, backing President Donald Trump with 54 percent of the vote in 2016, the Charlotte suburbs have swung hard toward Democrats in the last three years, turning the previously red district into battleground territory.
Republicans are also defending the state’s 3rd Congressional District, which has been vacant since the late GOP Walter Jones died earlier this year. Trump won 60 percent of the vote there in 2016, and state Rep. Greg Murphy, the Republican nominee, is favored over Democrat Allen Thomas.
