  • line up in Lyon on Tuesday they will have a better chance to beat the USA in a World Cup match than ever before.

Player for player, the American team is the stronger side and you have to think they will get through – but England have the better manager, tactically.

We’re going to see tactics come into play in this game more than in any other match in this tournament so far, which is why I’m excited to see what Phil Neville has in store.

I have a new-found excitement and admiration for this England side because of how well they’ve been doing under Neville over the past 18 months.

Nikita Parris sat down in a Lyon hotel room with 15 British and French journalists to discuss semi-finals, penalty taking and her amazing career so far with Manchester City and England.

I asked her how on earth you control your emotions when you’re walking out in a World Cup semi-final as the defending champions.

“My emotion going into every game at this World Cup has just been utter joy. If you see me waiting to walk out I’m pretty much bouncing because I can’t wait to express myself in front of so many people,” said the winger from Toxteth who is the WSL’s all-time leading goalscorer.

“These are the moments you live for. These are the occasions you want to be a part of. When you’re on that pitch, my mindset is: there’s 22 players on that pitch, 11 of yours, 11 of their’s, you have to dominate, in every sense of the word. That’s been my mantra from the start.

“I’ve just wanted to be better than them. And if I am better than them I know I am helping the team in some way to get that win.”
