Can Klopp make this happen?
What’s the rumour?
The Sun is reporting that Jurgen Klopp is interested in signing Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele this summer if the Frenchman is made available for transfer by the Catalan club. Dembele has endured a torrid debut season in Spain.
In case you didn’t know…
Dembele came into prominence in the 2016-17 season when he turned out for Borussia Dortmund. In 50 games across all competitions that season, he scored 10 goals and provided 22 assists.
Barcelona shelled out €115 million for his services ahead of this season but he has failed to find his feet at Camp Nou. His current contract runs out only in 2022.
The heart of the matter
Following Neymar’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona decided to sign Dembele as his replacement. But things have not gone according to plan for the 20-year-old and he has failed to live up to expectations.
A thigh injury also hindered his progress and he was kept out of action for around four months. As a result, he has appeared only 14 times in the league and has played the full 90 minutes only once.
Liverpool are likely to look for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho this summer and as per the report, Klopp will be interested in a move for the talented winger if he is allowed to leave Barcelona. Liverpool do not boast a great deal of bench strength at the moment and it is almost certain that they will add reinforcements this summer.

Author’s take
Dembele has the potential to become a future star and despite a testing start to life in Spain, he has the calibre to turn things around. A move to Liverpool is unlikely to pan out because of the astronomical transfer fee involved and it will be wise for Klopp to target cheaper alternatives to strengthen his squad.
