BREAKING: FG Reached Agreement With ASUU Under Duress—Sonny Echono

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, on Thursday said the greater part of the arrangements came to with the Academic Staff Union of Universities were under pressure.

Echono expressed this during a retreat coordinated by the administering board of the University of Abuja.

ASUU and the Federal Government have continually been occupied with tussles over the last’s inability to satisfy a portion of the needs advanced by ASUU.

Echono said, “I have heard such a huge amount about the way that the public authority has neglected to respect the concurrences with ASUU. I have an alternate view regarding that in light of the fact that the greater part of these arrangements are blemished.

“On the off chance that someone goes to my home and puts a firearm to my head, I may consent to everything on the grounds that those arrangements are endorsed under pressure. To present commitments or obligations on their part, they will demand you can’t.”

In the mean time sources on Thursday told our reporter that ASUU would choose whether to take to the streets or not after the finish of its planned zonal gatherings on December 15, 2021.

In a record acquired by The PUNCH, it was assembled that the gatherings would occur between December 9 and December 15 in Abuja, Nsukka, Ibadan, Yola, Benin, Akure, Lagos, Bauchi, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Sokoto and Kano.

The source added that the choice to protest would rely upon the result of the zonal press briefings.
