Following a disturbing report by The WorldNewsCable Wednesday night that the former governor of Abia state, and All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Abia North, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu slipped into coma in a German hospital after an emergency, close relatives of Kalu have come out to deny the report but with discordant narratives.
While Kalu’s brother, Mascot Uzor Kalu said his brother was admitted in a German hospital, Kalu’s senior aide and friend, Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu said, Kalu was not admitted in hospital but travelled to Germany for a business.
Early Thursday morning, in an effort to discredit the report, Mascot Kalu posted to Whatapp and Social media groups:
“OUK is fine, he over slept after a minor treatment, though he’s treatment is still on-going but he’s not in coma.”
On the other hand, while responding to questions from journalists over Kalu’s health, Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu, a former Deputy Chief of Staff to ex Governors Orji Kalu and T. Orji said his principal was not ill and needless to say that he was flown to Germany for emergency check-up.
The WorldNewsCable reported that Kalu took ill and rushed to a German hospital in Wisebaden where he went into coma and was in serious condition. It said: “Kalu’s condition was critical when he arrived the hospital and deteriorated quickly despite all efforts by doctors.Kalu was in his country home in Nigeria over the weekend and was seen in some public functions without any sign of ill-health.”
But Ukaegbu described the report as fake news, saying he spoke with Kalu on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, who he said was in Germany on business trip as he had always been. He said the fake news was the handiwork of political hackers and hoodlums who fed fat on falsehood against Kalu.
He said: “Nobody should take that report with any atom of seriousness because it is the handiwork of political hackers and hoodlums who have nothing doing and see fake report on Kalu as their source of income and livelihood. “Political enemies are at it again because they know that their time is up; they know there is going to be a level playing ground in 2019 elections and they are aware that Kalu is going to win the Abia North senatorial district seat and they think that the best way to stop him is to continuously dish out fake news, thinking that is the only way to stop him.
“The other time, the rumour was that his name was not in the APC register and when that could not work out, they came with another rumour that he was screened out by his party to contest the election and that even his name was not on INEC list of those to contest the election.”
