APC crisis: Senator Abe accused of sabotaging party
The Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been in the news consistently of late – Sadly, the state chapter has been in the news for all the wrong reasons – An eye witness gives an account of the violence she witnessed that characterized the party’s ward congresses in the state More facts are emerging in the crisis that engulfed the Rivers state chapter of the APC last week. Two factions of the party clashed in the state capital, Port Harcourt, over the ward congresses held in the state last week. An eye witness who chose to be anonymous, recently gave an account of what she witnessed the violence that characterized the party’s ward congresses in the state. Senator Abe have been accused of working with Governor Wike to destabilize the APC in Rivers state. the shoot out witnessed in a Rivers state High Court was allegedly masterminded by a combination of thugs supported by Senator Magnus Abe and River state governor, Nyesom Wike. She stated that pandemonium broke out as soon the armed thugs shouting PDP slogans engaged the police guarding the court in a shoot out that lasted for more than twenty minutes, adding that as soon as the shootings reduced, the convoy of Senator Magnus Abe and that of the presiding judge arrived. There are speculations that Senator Abe masterminded the crisis orchestrated by thugs to pave a way to get the judgement which, many accuse him of attempting to stop the process of the on going primaries. Some party chieftains in the state however insists that the APC senator is working with the PDP to disrupt the congress of his own party. The speculation is that the Ogoni born senator is hell bent on destroying the chances of his party if he does not get the governorship ticket under the APC platform. The senator has however denied the allegations and severally insisted that he is not leaving the APC With the crisis in the APC taking a violent dimension, the last has not been heard about the politics in the oil rich state. Supporters loyal to Senator Abe have been on social media trading words with the supporters of the minister of transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who is the leader of the party in the state and the south-south region. Rather than conceed the request of the senator to be adopted as a consensus of the party for governorship, the minister is said to be insisting on an open primary election where every aspirant for the governorship ticket of the party will be expected to test his or her popularity. The minister’s position had angered the senator who allegedly vowed to destroy the chances of APC in the state unless the ticket is handed over to him. Last week, some thugs reportedly loyal to Senator Abe and had allegedly attacked the secretariat of the APC in the state. A prompt police intervention saved the day after the thugs broke in and destroyed and vandalized many parts of the building. Meanwhile,news men had reported that Amaechi vowed to stop the 2019 governorship ambition of Senator Magnus Abe, lawmaker representing Rivers South East in the National Assembly. According to him, nobody could convince him to back his former political ally and godson. The battle of wits between Amaechi and Senator Magnus Abe has continued to hug headlines in the media.
