2023: Southern Nigeria has qualified individuals as president – Afenifere excuses Northern elderly folks’ position
The Yoruba socio-political association, Afenifere, has demanded that the Southern piece of Nigeria has qualified individuals to run the country.
Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, said power should move toward the Southern piece of the country in 2023.
Ajayi, who talked only to DAILY POST was responding to a comment by the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, on the North creating President Muhammadu Buhari’s replacement.
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, NEF representative had said the North was not prepared to give up power in 2023.
Baba-Ahmed had said the sky would not fall if the North creates the following president, focusing on that those against it should leave Nigeria in the event that it occurs in 2023.
The NEF representative had revealed this at the Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series in Zaria, Kaduna.
Responding, Ajayi said Baba-Ahmed’s comment showed that he is a sectional scholar.
He said: “Such an articulation can just emerge from the mouth of someone who doesn’t care at about the other piece of the country. I comprehend that Baba-Ahmed was a resigned Permanent Secretary at the Federal level, and I expect that an individual of that type would be nationalistic in nature and in his expressions.
“It’s not shocking that what is to him is the thing that is emerging from his mouth; this has shown unmistakably that this man is sectional in his reasoning.
“Saying that sky won’t fall implies he doesn’t hope everything turns out great for the country, that is the reason he is saying such.
“Our position is that, for Nigerians to have a feeling of value, agreement, and having a place, it will be reasonable that all aspects of the nation participates in the administration of the country. Along these lines, the administration of Nigeria should move toward the Southern piece of the country in 2023.
“What’s more, before that political race, Nigeria ought to be rebuilt. We make certain of it and it needs to occur.
“Along these lines, the Baba-Ahmeds of this world can’t be the ones to decide for all Nigerians; that won’t occur.
“There is no important for the country that doesn’t have individuals qualified to administer, which implies that in case we are to pass by merit, all aspects of this nation can create a president.”
